CRANBERRY TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board moved quickly Monday evening to re-establish its leadership for the coming year, unanimously re-electing Eric DiTullio to serve as Board President and Jeff Widdowson as Vice President.

The reorganization meeting, held at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 at the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School Auditorium, is a standard procedure following the November general election. It allows the board to swear in or reorganize before the regular legislative meeting scheduled for the following week.

According to the official minutes, Mr. DiTullio presided over the early portion of the meeting before the election took place. To facilitate the vote, Mr. Nick Brower was appointed President Pro Tempore. This temporary role is traditionally given to a holdover member to oversee the election of the board’s leadership officers.

Mr. DiTullio was nominated for the presidency by Ms. Susan Harrison. Following a motion to close nominations by Mr. Tim Hester, the board cast a roll call vote. The minutes indicate all members present voted in the affirmative.

Mr. Widdowson was nominated for the vice presidency by Mr. DiTullio. Similarly, after a motion to close nominations, he was elected via a roll call vote with all present members voting in the affirmative.

The re-elections signal a desire for continuity within the district’s leadership. Seneca Valley, which serves approximately 7,500 students across Cranberry Township, Jackson Township, and surrounding communities, faces ongoing challenges regarding curriculum, facilities management, and state funding.

Mr. DiTullio and Mr. Widdowson’s leadership will be pivotal as the district navigates the 2025 budget cycle in the coming months. The district is one of the largest in western Pennsylvania, and maintaining its ranking as a top educational institution requires consistent governance.

Attendance was limited for the brief reorganization session. In addition to Mr. DiTullio, Mr. Brower, Ms. Harrison, Mr. Hester, and Mr. Widdowson, Mr. Fred Peterson was also present. Mr. Jeff Jacobs, Ms. Bredl, and Ms. Zimmer were noted as absent in the roll call. Ms. Julia Benson, Board Secretary, oversaw the administrative aspects of the voting.

The meeting was notably short, lasting less than 10 minutes. After the election of officers, Ms. Harrison motioned to adjourn, seconded by Mr. DiTullio. The meeting was officially called to a close at 5:41 p.m.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for the following Monday, where the new administration is expected to dive into policy and financial matters affecting the district’s roughly 7,500 students and their families.
